We learned about where elephants live. Now we’ll learn how they live. To help us learn more, we’re going to take a virtual field trip to visit the Birmingham Zoo in Alabama.
Directions: Can you find the state of Alabama on this map of the United States?

Act like a scientists and observe elephants to learn more about how they live. We’ve got two observation challenges to help us learn:

Directions: Look at the pictures above. What do the pictures have in common. Make a list as long as you can of all the things the two pictures have in common. Write your answers in your Mission Log.
Challenge: See if you can come up with more than 5 things.
C. Challenge 2: Zoo Observations.
You probably saw from the two pictures that elephants and people have a lot in common. Now we’re going to watch a video of the real elephants that live at the Birmingham Zoo.
Directions: Watch the video. As you watch the video, think about these three things:
- What is in their elephant habitat?
- Are elephants alone or together with a group?
- Is their habitat clean or messy?
