Project Title: Weathering the Storm

Mission:

How can we help to prevent more hurricanes?

Culminating / Take Action Project

Hurricane Report and 3D Model

What Kids Learn

Did you know that category 5 hurricanes are becoming more common in our world today? Hurricanes cause significant damage to people’s lives and the Earth.  In this project, kids will learn about hurricanes, their effects, how people contribute to hurricanes, who is helping, and how they can assist. Kids then take action by applying what they have learned about weather, bodies of water, and climate to raise awareness about the impact of hurricanes. They create a news report and a 3D diorama of a category 5 hurricane, and share how we can help.

  • K-ESS3-2: Ask questions to obtain information about the purpose of weather forecasting to prepare for, and respond to,
    severe weather.
  • K-ESS3-3: Communicate solutions that will reduce the impact of humans on the land, water, air, and/or other living things in the local environment.
  • K-LS1-1: Use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals (including humans) need to survive
