Summary

The “Ugly Food and Hunger” zine helps kids explore the following questions.

  • What is our food waste and hunger problem?
  •  Where does our food come from?
  •  Why is there waste and hunger?
  •  Why should we care and how can we help?

Connections to Other Resources

This zine is the primary text in our Ugly Food and Hunger project.  Kids read about why we have a hunger and food problem, why this matters and how we can help.  By reading about where food comes from, kids learn that we can eat what some may consider “ugly foods” and also learn more deeply why food is wasted. They then apply this knowledge in the take action project by creating food clips and raising awareness about food waste and hunger as a fundraiser to donate to any organization of choice focused on stopping food waste and hunger.
