Take Action Project: Making A Mural

Summary:

Students will learn the art of murals from professional muralist educators, Eric Okdeh. They’ll learn three strategies professional muralists use: theme, background & foreground, and scale that compel others to take action. These visual art skills help students draw parallels between theme, evidence and author’s purpose in writing. Students will create a mural and then exercise their writing skills by creating a short expository piece explaining the theme and choices they made in their mural.

Final Project

Create a mural about a topic kids care about. The mural will educate others and/or compel them to take action on an issue.

Connections to Other Resources
