A. What Makes a Good Argument?

Directions: Now that you have made a decision about whether it is right to skill invasive species to save other species , you will prepare an argument to present in a debate with others. To prepare for the debate, click on each of the images below to learn more about what makes a good argument.

Discuss: In your Mission Log, or with a friend, answer the following:

 

  • Who is my audience? What do I know about them?
  • What is the main purpose I want to get across?
  • How will I make my case compelling? How can I make my audience think and care about what I have to say?

C. Prepare Your Argument

Directions: Use the debate preparation outline in your Mission Log to prepare your argument. Remember to:

  • Go back through your Fact Finder notes to think about any details that you want to include.
  • Keep in mind that a strong argument considers the audience, has a clear purpose, and is compelling.

D. Check your Readines

Directions: Before you share your case with others in a debate, make sure to review your case. By yourself of with a partner:

 

  • Use the checklist in the Mission Log to check if you are ready for the debate.
  • Use your checklist and/or any feedback you are able to get from a partner to identify ways to make your case stronger.
  • Make any final adjustments to your argument.
