1.1 You Mission: Too Much Gaming?

A. Your Mission

B. Take Action Project: Creating A TV News Report

Many people think video games are bad for us. Many people think they are good. In this project, you’ll learn all about video games:

  • Positive Story: If you decide they are good, you’ll create a news story to tell people WHY they are good and how they can help.
  • Negative Story: If you decide they are bad, you’ll create a news story to help people learn why they are bad and how to avoid them.

C. Can You Guess?

Video games can be a ton of fun, but they don’t magically appear in the App Store. People design them to impact us and our lives! See how much you already know about video game design.

Directions: See how many true/false questions you can guess. Don’t worry if you don’t know the answers yet. You’ll know them all by the end of the project.

True False Challenge

D. Gathering Your Evidence

Being a Fact Finder

In this module, you will answer the question: Are video games good for us or bad for us?

You’ll learn all about:

  • How our brains process information from games.
  • How light travels and sends info to our brains.
  • How we use patterns in games to send information to our brains.
  • How games use patterns and designs to keep us playing and engaged.

You’ll play games, make models, watch videos, meet experts, and read. Every time you learn something new, you should write down important information in your Mission Log. Write down anything you think will help you with your final project.

Write your notes in the “Fact Finder” section at the start of your Mission Log.
