Virtual Field Trip: The Brain With Dr. Jones

Summary:

Students will visit the lab of neuroscientist Dr. Jones to learn about how the brain processes information, the structure of the brain, and how neuroscientists study the brain.

Activity

Students will create a model of the brain hat that shows the parts of the brain and what they control. Students will then play a “total-physical response” game (individually or in a group) to identify the parts of the brain while they wear their brain hat.

Connections to Other Resources

This virtual field trip is included in the Save Our Brains Project.

Aligned Standards

Common Core Reading (CCSS):

  • CCRA.R.2: Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.
  • CCRA.R.7: Integrate and evaluate content presented in diverse media and formats, including visually and quantitatively, as well as in words.

NGSS Standards:

  • 4-LS1-2: Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brain, and respond to the information in different ways.
  • NGSS Science and Engineering Practice 2: Developing and using model.
