A. The Universe Warm-Up Quiz

How much do you know about the universe and the objects in it?

 

Directions: Try answering the questions below to see how much you know about the universe. Don’t worry if you get the answers wrong, this is a warm-up! You’ll learn all about the universe in the following few lessons. 

B. Read

What can be found in our universe?

If one of the future options is to move to outer space, we’d better learn all about our universe and Earth’s place in it.  Let’s read about our universe.  As you read, think about these questions. 

  • What can we learn from exploring space? 
  • How big is our universe? 
  • What is a solar system? 
  • What are some of the objects found in the solar system? 
  • What is the difference between the Sun, moon, stars, and planets?

Fact Finder: Write down any important information in the “Fact Finder” section of your Mission Log.

C. Smallest to Largest

We have just learned a great deal about the universe and some of the objects it contains. Some of these things are extremely large, while others are much smaller. 

Directions: Put the objects found in space in order from smallest to largest.

D. Is There Life on Mars?

What qualities do you think make a planet habitable, or able to support life? Do you believe the size of a planet matters? Mars is smaller than Earth. Do you think this affects the planet’s habitability? Watch the video to find out whether there is life on Mars and if you feel the size of a new planet matters.
