A. Moving to Outer Space
Some people have felt very strongly for a very long time that the best way to prepare for the future is to move to outer space and explore our universe beyond Earth. In the United States, we have spent about 650 billion dollars on NASA, our space exploration organization. Many people think that it is well worth the money and time. Check out the timeline below to learn more about important space exploration events

C. Saving Our Own Planet
Others believe that spending that money to save our planet will make sure that we can stay on Earth in the future. Learn about some of the different inventions people have created so far to help us protect Earth.Â
D. Different Arguments
What will happen in the future is unclear, but there are different arguments to be made about what we should do. Read the statements below and decide if each statement is for exploring a new world or protecting our own. Then discuss with a partner:Â

We cannot be sure exactly what will happen. However, as we prepare for the future, it will be important to know the conditions that make our Earth livable now. Your job will be to decide what you think will be the best way we can plan for the future.Â
