A Why are jaguars endangered?

Did you know that there are almost no more jaguars left in the United States and they are considered an endangered animal? Click on each image below and check out some facts about jaguars and why scientist around the world are helping to protect them.

Did you know that jaguars used to live all across North, Central, and South America? Today jaguars live mostly in South America because their homes are being destroyed.

Did you know that jaguar's are killed because of the pattern of their fur? Unlike the leopard, jaguars have little black dots inside a ring on their fur.

Did you know that jaguars need lakes and rivers as part of their habitats?  They are excellent swimmers and you often see them in lakes fishing for food.  Another threat to jaguars is the development of seaports and cities near the water.

Did you know that humans also like to hunt jaguars for their teeth, paws and bones? Some countries believe that their body parts have healing powers.

Jaguars need our help! In this mission you will learn how scientists at the Birmingham Zoo are working to help the jaguar by digging into a problem that a lot of jaguars face.  Then you will come up with your own creative solution on how you might approach solving this problem.
