A. Gorillas Live

Gorillas are very special creatures. Scientists learn a lot by observing gorillas in the wild. This is a live webcam of gorillas living at the GRACE gorilla sanctuary in the Congo. We’ll take a virtual visit to GRACE later.

This video shows live gorillas so we can see them in nature (not all of the video has sound). The Congo is in a different time zone from North America. When it’s nighttime in the Congo, the webcam shows pre-recorded video.

Directions: Watch the gorillas from the Congo. As you watch, find five things you notice about them, where they live, and how they behave together. You can rewind the video to see many kinds of gorilla behavior.

NOTE: This video links to You Tube on an external site. It's possible ads may be visible while playing.

B. Read

Fact Finder: Now we’re going to read more about gorillas and what makes them special. As you read, write down any important information in the “Fact Finder” section of your mission log.

What makes gorillas special? Why do they live in groups?
