A. Meet The Mutants

If you could have any super power, what would you have?
Have you ever heard of the X-men? They are from Marvel comics and they are a group of superheroes, each with a special superpower.

 

Directions: 

  • Check out the list of Marvel Mutants below. If you could have any one of these super powers, which do you think you’d want to have? Why?
  • Optional: Draw an image of what you would look like as a superhero with that superpower. 

Storm - Weather

Can control the weather and use it against others.

Can lift up to ten tons and run super fast.

Cyclops - Lasers

Can shoot super power light beams out of his eyes.

Can read the minds of others and control other’s minds.

Can create ice and use it against or to help others.

Can temporarily borrow and use the powers of others.

Super smart and can move through solid objects.

Wolverine - Regneration

Super healing, his body can regenerate or heal from almost any wound. He’s also super strong.

B. What's a super power?

If you can run fast, running faster might be a super power. But what if you can’t run at all. Just running might feel like a super power.

 

When we think about giving humans different abilities there are abilities that can help us do things better, faster and stronger than others, and their are abilities that can help us do things other people might take for granted.

 

Below is a recording from two kids. Jude and Ria. They both have conditions that impact their daily lives. 

 

Directions: Listen to each recording. As you listen, think about:

  • How do Jude’s and Ria’s illness impact their daily lives?

C. Think About It

People have a kind of code in their cells call DNA. That code determines many of our traits. 

Think About or Discuss:

  • If we could change that code to give you super powers, should we? 
  • If we could change our code to help Jude or Ria, should we? 
  • Why do you feel that way?
