Project Title: Save the Rainforest

Mission:

How can we help save the rainforests from deforestation caused by human impact?

Culminating / Take Action Project

Create a persuasive public service video (using puppets or props) that compel others to take action to help save the rainforest.

What Kids Learn

Students learn all about rainforests, why they are a critical ecosystem, why they are in danger, who is helping conserve rainforests and how we can help. Students engage in a series of learning activities to build their background knowledge. Students then take action by raising awareness about how we can all help to save the rainforest by creating a public service announcement with puppets.

Virtual Field Trips

One of our goals is to help kids connect what they are learning in our projects to the real world beyond the classroom. To do that, we’ve partnered with experts to help students learn from and virtually visit with experts from around the world.

The Birmingham Zoo

The Save the Rainforest course includes two virtual visits with the Birmingham zoo. Students learn about the layers of the rainforest and the unique role species play in the rainforest while meeting three species from the zoo. Students also learn about how aluminum negative impacts the rainforest ecosystem.
