B. Meet Representative Vargas
Meet Representative Tony Vargas. He’s a politician. That means people elected him to represent them. Tony is from Omaha Nebraska. The people of Omaha elected him to be a Senator in their state government. Mr. Vargas helps make laws to help the people and business in his state. Mr. Vargas gets letters from people all the time. The letters are about things people care about and want to change. He’s going to help teach us to to write great letters to politicians.

D. Levels of Government
In America, we have three levels of government.
Local: makes the laws and works for your town or county: roads, schools, garbage.
State: makes the laws and works to run your state: state roads, state taxes.
Federal: makes the laws and works to run the country: trade, the army, work with other countries.
Politicians work for one level. Sometimes people start in local government and then work their way up to federal government.
