1.5 Diagnostic Assessments

A. Your Learning Check-In

Every great story has moments where the main character discovers something new about themselves—what they are good at, what challenges them, and where they want to grow. This is one of those moments in your story.

You have already explored your strengths and how you learn best. Now, you will take two short assessments, called diagnostics, for reading and math. These are not about getting everything right. They are about learning more about you as a reader and a mathematician.

The results will help you and your teacher understand what you already know and what you are ready to work on next. That way, you can set goals, track progress, and keep growing all year long. This is just one more way to learn about the main character in your story- you.

B. What Is a Diagnostic?

Directions: Answer the following questions to help you learn more about the diagnostics you will take.

C. You've Got This: Time to Begin

Now it is your turn to show what you know. You will be taking your reading and math diagnostics soon. Remember, these tests are not about getting every question right. They help you and your teacher understand what you already feel confident about and what you might need more help with. This is the first step toward setting goals and noticing how much you grow over time.

Tips Before You Start:

  • Find a quiet place where you can focus
  • Take your time and read carefully
  • If a question feels tricky, give it your best try and move on
  • Remember, this is just a starting point. Your effort matters.
