1.1 Who Am I?

A. Every Character Grows and Changes

Think about your favorite books, movies, or shows. The main character usually starts out one way, but by the end of the story, they have grown, changed, and learned something important. Maybe they face big challenges. Maybe they discover something new about themselves. But no matter what, they do not stay the same.

B. What Is Happening?

C. Beginning, Middle, and End

Just like every story, the story of Superman has a beginning, a middle, and an end. At the beginning, we get to know the character—what they enjoy, what they care about, and what makes them unique. In the middle, they try new things, face challenges, and start to grow. By the end, we discover how they have changed and what they have learned along the way.

D. YOU Are the Main Character!

In a book, the author creates the story. But in your life, you are the author.  You get to write your own story through the choices you make, the challenges you face, and the ways you grow. This year, you will be the main character in your own story, a story about who you are and how you grow as a learner and a person.

Directions: Every book has a title and a cover. Turn to the front cover of your Learning Journey. Write a title, draw a picture of yourself, and write your name. Be creative- this is YOUR story!

E. Telling the Story of You

Throughout the year, you will use a portfolio and a video diary to help tell your story. Your portfolio will collect work that shows your progress. Your video diary will be a place where you share your thoughts, reflect on your growth, and celebrate what you’ve learned about yourself.

To begin your story, you will ask yourself five big questions. These questions will help you understand who you are, what matters to you, and how you can grow.

  • Who Am I?
  • What Am I Good At?
  • How Do I Learn?
  • What Can I Improve?
  • How Can I Improve?

Directions: Now that you know what this journey is all about, it is time to start discovering more about yourself. Turn to page 1 and get started with your first big question: Who Am I?
